Outside of School
I have a variety of interests at varying degrees of separation from my school. Sailing has been a passion of mine since I was a child and I have now been sailing the majority of my life. With over a decade of coaching, I learned that I loved sharing my knowledge just as much as I loved obtaining it.
I love being outdoors and practicing my naturalism. Whether it is with friends, family, or strangers - my passion is palpable as I often collect an audience by simply sharing the knowledge I find fascinating. There is just something so satisfying about telling someone the intricacies of the seemingly mundane life we pass by every day.
I am truly grateful to live in an age where so much knowledge is available at our fingertips. I have led myself on my academic journey - learning many lessons the hard way. This has lit a fire inside me to help everyone incorporate learning into their daily lives. This has led to me helping with Science 101 - a program for adult learners from Vancouver’s Downtown East Side, being the ambassador for Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre to UBC, and advocating for increased disability acceptance and accessibility everywhere I go.
My other interests are scuba diving (when I have the time), birding, practicing my species identification skills while hiking, playing with my cats, and relaxing with friends. I have been involved with tropical fish breeding for a decade and I once was a competing strongman - now I am just someone who trains and eats like one.
